How To Make Awesome Sopapillas!

1 1/2 cups warm water

1 pkg dry yeast

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

4 cups flour

1 Tbs sugar

1 Tbs shortening

Dissolve yeast in water, add sugar and shortening then the flour sifted with baking powder and salt.

Mix well and knead. Set aside in bowl with cloth cover for 1 hour(to rise).

Roll dough to a little less than 1/4 inch cut into triangle or rectangles(larger~ about 4 inches long) fry in hot shortening.

Note; Fry only a couple at a time, so fat stays hot, if it is hot they will puff up and become hollow.

Also change out fat if cooking very many.

Drain on paper towels.  Dough may also be frozen, makes approx 20 Sopas.

Serve warm with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar on top or my favorite; warm with honey as a side to chile.

This has been my favorite dessert since I was a kid.  To this day, my mom still tells stories of how she would come home from work exhausted and I would beg her to make these until she caved!  I am going to try out this recipe for my family this weekend. Thanks for sharing!

The bigger question is... WHO CARES?  Why are you posting #$%^&&% recipes on a real estate blogging platform?  Are you THAT bored?  Are you THAT unprofessional?  Is that what you want your clients to see?  Are you just blogging for points?

It's THIS type of garbage that is diluting the effectiveness and quality of Active Rain.

Posted by Paul over 4 years ago

Paul,

Your rude comment shows YOUR unprofessionalism and lack of respect for your peers by commenting something so rude on their blog.  IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT YOUR CLIENTS TO SEE? WHAT A JERK YOU ARE?  You're obviously a newbie.

And YOUR comment is the type of garbage that COULD dilute the effectiveness and quality of Active Rain.  I don't see it being diluted now, it has been very effective for me. Go somewhere else, we don't want people like you here.  You're dismissed.

Paul- You conveniently did not leave me anyway to contact you. Are you an agent, where is your blog and your profile. If you notice there are recipe groups here and many other interests along with Real Estate. My clients love my cooking, I have made many a deal after feeding a client my amazing food! Million dollar deals...so that being said, I am sorry you feel the way you do and I respectfully request you stay off my blog. If I have somehow found my way onto yours, let me know and I will make sure to stay off it. I am terribly non-plussed by this rant and by the cowardice you show in not leaving your full name or info. well, whatever...Have a FABULOUS day! I intend to...

It seems like some people don't like your sopapillas, I really have never had one, but they look great. I thought this was a social network. If all we did was list properties, it wouldn't be much fun.

Rich- Thanks, but it is really no biggie. Just someone probably upset about something else..who knows. I do appreciate the back up and I agree that in general we all need to be tolerant of each others uniqueness, it is why this works after all...:.) Nice to meet you by the way!

They sound yummy!  The version with honey sounds similar to something I had last fall at a local Greek Festival, and those were excellent!

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I didn't even know what those were? Thanks and now I am hungry thanks to your wonderful cooking, so tell you what, can you please fax me a few of those, like 5 would be good and if they are as good as they look, maybe I can order a dozen: Sopapillas!  - Lance

Oh, I just read that PAUL POST, I also heard about it from Rich's Blog. Well all be darned, so this is where that guy posted that BS comment at my friends and associates website blog, OOOOHHH, that really irks me Vanessa, but don't let that guy bother you, just fax me some Sopapillas! Lance

Cindy- a recipe using tortillas for sopa's? How? only thing I can think of is folding them and deep frying...that might be good! hmmmmm
Posted by Brentwood TN Homes, Real Estate Vanessa Stalets REALTOR® (RE/MAX Elite) over 4 years ago
Nancy- You are most welcome! I hope you try them, they are easier than you think!
Posted by Brentwood TN Homes, Real Estate Vanessa Stalets REALTOR® (RE/MAX Elite) over 4 years ago
Lance- That is so funny, it's not stupid thought. Lots of people probably have had them and not known what they were..they are delicious, however faxing them detracts appreciably from the taste...sorry! lol

Clarification;

I have chosen to leave "Paul"s  post here not to incite an AR riot but because I believe in the freedom to disagree. I don't have a problem with someone not liking me or what I say(write) and I will not delete opposing views just because they don't agree with me. That diversity is what makes this community and this Country as a whole something to fight for. I simply would appreciate knowing who is yelling at me. lol. So, Paul if you read this, feel free to email me and tell me off. No problem..it is really not about you anymore, but about integrity and honesty.

I'm with Neil, Vanessa.  The guy obviously doesn't know what a good sopapilla tastes like here in the Southwest.  I'm ashamed to share a name with that clown.  Any chance you have a few carne adovado secrets to share?

Neal- Yeah, that's it!....:.)

Paul- I promise not to hold the name against you..prob not the real name of the poster anyway. Yes I do have a secret or two on Carne adovada. The biggest secret is 2 teaspoons of sugar and use a smoky red chile....shhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone.
